So that’s me right there – looking all serious for the photoshoot, shifting a whopping 4 plates on the cable fly with my shirt off, as one does.
I’ve been in the fitness industry for 12 year, working as a personal trainer & coach for 7 years, and as a nutritionist for 3.
IN THAT TIME I’VE TRIED AND TESTED JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING,
MADE ALL THE MISTAKES YOU CAN MAKE,
AND NOW I WORK TO PASS THAT KNOWLEDGE ON
12 Years Of Trying Everything...
I started out weights because, at the time, I felt like I wasn’t strong enough for MMA. I stand at a highly unimposing 5’3 – there wasn’t even a division for people in my size in the UFC yet. To add to that I have a genetic condition called Poland syndrome that causes muscular dystrophy on one side of my body and had never lifted a weight in my life.
I remember trying to train in a gym full of heavyweights, and every time walking out with so much pain I could barely walk for the next couple of days. So basically, I started at the bottom fitness-wise, and spent the next few years getting it together.
I had no clue what to do. so I tried everything. From weights machines, bodybuilder splits, marathons, callisthenics, powerlifting, Olympic lifts, Bikram yoga. If it’s a fitness thing I’ve probably done it at some point. The same goes with diets: slow-carb, 5:2, intermittent fasting. I’ve even guinea pigged things like keto on myself so I can speak first-hand about them.
By about 3 years ago, I felt like I’d seen it all, but it still didn’t click. I struggled to get to the weight I needed to be at, and I was plenty strong but I didn’t look how I wanted to look.
This all changed when I started spending time around professionals. World-class fighters (think One & UFC), bodybuilders & physique athletes. People where missing weight meant losing a giant pay-cheque and months of work lost. These are people who only had time for what worked. And what did I learn?

For most results you would want to get, the science is simple – and it’s largely been in for decades. Once you realised the stuff that matters, and the order you should approach it in, it all gets a hundred times simpler
I found myself following way training for shorter times with simpler training programmes, eating more of what I wanted, relaxing more – all while being stronger, faster, bigger and leaner than ever before.
These days I spend my time helping everyone do the same – with a special focus on athletes who need this help most. My job is to make sure people can get to the weight they need to be at while staying strong and feeling healthy.
